Because of all the snow we are having, school is being called on a regular basis. That has left me with a some free time, and I feel like I am getting to step out on the town with my art journal a little! This is another try at a mandala....art in the round.
I couple posts ago, I did some storefront sketches, and decided to add some watercolor. Here they are with their new look.
Well I can't help it. This was too cute to let pass by. Both our westies have these little boots, called Pawz, that they wear when the snow is heavy. They are rather like a heavy duty rubber balloon that stretches on over the paw. After our last storm, Ivy was all too ready to get outside, so she sat up on Sam's stomach, to allow him to put her 'boots' on. All I can say is....she knows where her treats come from!
........we are getting another 12" of snow tonight
I have been so inspired by Tammy's mandalas at Yellow Daisy, that I am hoping to teach them to my elementary art students. This loose style is very appealing, and do-able, for their art journals. I am working on some of my own, so I have samples to show them. Here is my first one.
We are currently in the death grip of 3 major snow storms. Not enough time, nor warm weather for any to melt, so one is piled on top of another. Apparently another is coming around Wednesday. Can I say....I am a LOT sick of this! For having a plow service, I have never shovelled more, in my life!
This is my weekly sketch for Art Journaling Everyday.
....I feel certain some watercolor would help define these better.
I am posting this picture in an effort to get sympathy and response from ANYONE in the wide world experiencing 30 degree, or higher, weather! This morning, we got an additional 5" to our already standing 2 foot of snow. If you don't live in this weather, trust me....it's a lot. Don't even get me started on the emergency maintenance issues for the house, that came up this past week, alone.
I have been so busy with school, I have had little time to work in my art journal. I decided to try to get back into the habit and took up the Art Journal Everyday challenge. While I can't do it that often, I thought a bit of pre-planning might help me.
One day, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston,I picked up a weekly calendar, showing photos of old stores. It's called Store Fronts:The Disappearing Face of New York. For my birthday, last year, my friend, Deb, gave me this handbound journal. She made it from the front and back cover of an old book. It is beautifully embossed with design and gold leaf lettering. I love it. Of course I didn't want to do anything in it, for fear of 'ruining' it! You know you do the same thing....we are such 'fraidy cats! So I decided to use this journal for the project, of a weekly sketch, using these old storefront photos. The paper she used, will be great if I decide to add watercolor later. Here is my first sketch.
