I have been so busy with school, I have had little time to work in my art journal. I decided to try to get back into the habit and took up the Art Journal Everyday challenge. While I can't do it that often, I thought a bit of pre-planning might help me.
One day, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston,I picked up a weekly calendar, showing photos of old stores. It's called Store Fronts:The Disappearing Face of New York. For my birthday, last year, my friend, Deb, gave me this handbound journal. She made it from the front and back cover of an old book. It is beautifully embossed with design and gold leaf lettering. I love it. Of course I didn't want to do anything in it, for fear of 'ruining' it! You know you do the same thing....we are such 'fraidy cats! So I decided to use this journal for the project, of a weekly sketch, using these old storefront photos. The paper she used, will be great if I decide to add watercolor later.
Here is my first sketch.
